What actually happened

Rajasthan Tourism records that one night in 1825 the people of Kuldhara and 83 nearby villages left their homes together, and the village has stood empty ever since.

The history

Paliwal Brahmins founded the village in 1291 and farmed bumper crops in the desert; the ruins are now a protected monument of the State Archaeology Department, about 17 km west of Jaisalmer.

What people report

Local tradition holds that the villagers cursed the place as they fled a predatory minister, Salim Singh, and that nobody has since managed to spend a night there.

That paragraph is reported tradition, not a claim about what is there. The history above it is sourced; the stories are recorded because people tell them.
