Free short stories to read online
Every story on Flinchd is free, original and short. Nothing here is a reprint, a classic in the public domain or a summary of something you have already seen. Each one was written for this site for readers aged 13 and up, rated 13+ or 16+, and built to be finished in one sitting on a phone.
Pick a rating and go. 13+ means real stakes without gore; 16+ goes darker in theme. Science fiction and horror are the only two things we publish. New stories land regularly, and there is no paywall and no sign-up standing between you and the first line. An account is optional, email only, and just keeps your place across devices.

Are the stories really free?
Yes. Every story is free to read and free to listen to. There is no subscription or trial, and no account is needed to read; sign in with an email only if you want your list and your place to follow you across devices. Story pages show a small five-second ad card when they open, which is how the site pays for itself.
How long is a Flinchd story?
Most are six to nine minutes, long enough to get lost in and short enough to finish on one journey. An episode of a serial, Guilty in Every World or the Amelia series, runs 15 to 26 minutes, and every page says its length before you start.
Who writes the stories?
The Flinchd studio. Every story is original fiction written for this site, checked for originality before publication, and never adapted from any book, film, series or game.
Can I read them on my phone?
Flinchd is built for phones first. Text size and background colour are adjustable, and every story remembers where you stopped.
