Cookies and advertising

This notice explains the cookies and advertising used on Flinchd (https://flinchd.com).
1. Cookies set by Flinchd
None. Flinchd does not set any cookies of its own. A handful of preferences (text size, reading position, finished stories, age confirmation, chosen narrator) are kept in your browser's local storage, which stays on your device and is never sent to us. See the Privacy Policy.
2. Advertising on the Site
Flinchd is free to read. To pay for it, the Site shows advertising supplied by Google AdSense. Google decides where those advertisements go using its Auto Ads system, so the exact placements change over time. They may include:
- units placed within or beside a story
- a small banner anchored to the bottom of the screen
- a full-screen advertisement shown between two pages, which you dismiss to carry on reading
We do not build advertisements of our own around Google's, and we do not disguise an advertisement as part of a story. Everything that is an advertisement is labelled as one.
3. Third-party advertising cookies, and your choice
Google and its advertising partners may set and read cookies to serve, measure, limit the repetition of, and in some cases personalise advertising.
- Partner: Google AdSense, operated by Google LLC.
- Your choice: if you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, Google's Consent Management Platform asks you on your first visit. It offers Consent, Do not consent, and Manage options, and refusing takes exactly one click, the same as accepting.
- If you refuse: Google serves non-personalised advertising instead. You still see advertisements, but they are not based on a profile of you.
- Change your mind: the consent panel can be reopened from the privacy link Google places in its message, or by clearing the site data for Flinchd in your browser.
- Outside those regions: local law applies, and you can control personalised advertising for your Google account at myadcenter.google.com.
Google describes its advertising cookies at policies.google.com/technologies/ads. You can opt out of many advertising networks at youronlinechoices.eu or optout.aboutads.info.
4. What we will not do
We will not sell your data to advertisers or to anyone else. We will not tell any third party that you read a particular story. We will not use dark patterns to push you into accepting cookies, and we will not make refusing harder than accepting. We will not place advertising on a page in a way designed to be clicked by accident.

Businesses who want to advertise on Flinchd directly, without an ad network, can email info@flinchd.com with the subject line "Advertising".
