What actually happened

The Ministry records that a two-year full restoration preceded the palace's first opening to visitors, as the venue for an exhibition on the history of Heliopolis.

The history

Belgian industrialist Edouard Empain built the palace between 1907 and 1911 to designs by French architect Alexander Marcel, in an Indian style inspired by Cambodian temples, with a basement, two floors and a roof terrace.

What people report

During its decades standing empty, local tradition told of lights and sounds inside the sealed palace at night, a reputation the restored museum does not promote.

That paragraph is reported tradition, not a claim about what is there. The history above it is sourced; the stories are recorded because people tell them.
