Is Chillingham Castle haunted?
England Reported haunting level 5 of 5

What actually happened
The family lost eight members to execution for high treason across centuries of divided loyalties, and the castle still shows visitors its torture chamber.
The history
Held by one family line since the 1200s, the castle received Henry III in 1245 and a royal licence to add battlements in 1344. Sir Humphry Wakefield began its restoration in 1982.
What people report
The castle presents itself as Britain's most haunted; staff and guests tell of a pale woman in white in the inner pantry who begged a footman for water, and of two unintelligible voices near the chapel.
That paragraph is reported tradition, not a claim about what is there. The history above it is sourced; the stories are recorded because people tell them.
