What actually happened

Since 1990 sound recordings have been made inside the castle at five-year intervals, and they are played at the end of every daytime visit.

The history

The fortress dominates the Marecchia and Uso valleys and bears the arms of the Guidi di Bagno family, who still own it. Its furnishings span 1300 to 1800.

What people report

The castle tells of Azzurrina, the albino child Guendalina Malatesta, said to have vanished within the walls on the summer solstice of 1375 and whose voice is said to return every five years.

That paragraph is reported tradition, not a claim about what is there. The history above it is sourced; the stories are recorded because people tell them.
