What actually happened
The communist government seized the castle in 1948 and forced Princess Ileana to leave; it was returned to her heirs in 2006 and handed over in 2009.
The history
King Louis I granted Brașov the right to build the castle in 1377 and it was finished in 1388 as a customs post and fortress. The town gave it to Queen Marie in 1920.
What people report
The castle is presented as the home of Bram Stoker's fictional Count Dracula; its own chronology records only Vlad the Impaler's 1459 attack on Brașov, so the vampire is literary tradition rather than a reported sighting.
