What we are looking for
Horror or science fiction, original, and short enough to finish in one sitting. Six to nine minutes of reading is the shape that suits this site, which is roughly 1,200 to 1,900 words, though we will read anything from 300 to 6,000. Every story we publish carries a rating of 13+ or 16+, so there is a ceiling: nothing sexual, no graphic gore, no slurs, no method for self-harm, and no cruelty to children on the page. Menace, dread and implication are all yours.
The stories that work here have a real turn in them. Somewhere in the last third, something the reader already accepted turns out to mean something else. If you would like to see what we mean, read a few first.
How it works
- A person reads every submission. Nothing is published automatically.
- We reply either way. We are a small studio, so allow a few weeks.
- If we want to publish it, we send you our edit before anything goes live, and you can say no.
- It is credited under whatever name you give us, on its own page, with its own artwork.
- We do not pay for stories. If that changes, writers already published here will be the first to hear.
The terms, in plain words
You keep the copyright. By sending it you confirm you wrote it, that it is not copied from anyone and not adapted from any existing book, film, series or game, and you give Augeas Technologies a non-exclusive licence to publish it on Flinchd, in text and as narrated audio, with your chosen credit. Non-exclusive means you can publish it elsewhere too. You can ask us to take it down at any time and we will. Everything else is covered by our terms and privacy policy.
You need to be 16 or over to submit. If a story turns out not to be the writer's own, it comes down the moment we know.
